Ingredients: 3/4 cup of sugar 2 cups water 6 oz. of margarine or vegetable fat 8 oz. wheat-meal flour 1/2 tsp. ground green cardamom seeds (optional ingredients:1 tbs. slivered almonds, 1 tbs. slivered pistachios, 1 tsp. rosewater)

Directions:Mix the sugar with 1 cup of water. Melt the margarine in a frying pan over a medium to high heat. Add the flour slowly and stir continuously while frying until it turns a golden brown. Add the sugar water to the flour in the frying pan. Continue stirring and add 1 more cup of water. Let the fat separate out. Continue stirring until the water has evaporated. Add the cardamom, and the optional ingredients if you chose to use them. Preheat the oven to 300ºF. Transfer the mix to a deep-bottomed 8-inch cake tin. Cover with tin foil. Bake for 30 minutes. |
