1 c. shortening
2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 tsp. soda in 1/2 c warm water
1/2 tsp. salt
4 c flour
1 small pkg dates
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. water
2 tsp. flour

Filling:
1 small package dates
1 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons flour
Boil together - set aside

Dough:
1 cup shortening
2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 teaspoon soda
1/2 cup warm water
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 cups flour

Combine soda and water before adding to other ingredients. Mix all together.
Drop 1 teaspoon dough onto cookie sheet - top with dab of date filling - then another spoonful of dough on top.

Bake 350º for 8 - 10 minutes
