Personal Notes:
My father would turn over in his grave if he knew I had added a recipe from the wife of Hubert Humphrey, Vice President of the United States from 1965-1969. Humphrey was a democrat and my dad was a died in the wool Republican. My dad knew Bob Berglund who was Secretary of Agriculture in the 70's under President Jimmy Carter. They knew each other from both living in the Roseau area and growing up there. When you grew up there everybody pretty much knew who everybody was. My dad found out from my mother, who worked at a restaurant in Visalia, California at the time that Mr. Berglund was going to be in the area and would be eating breakfast at the restaurant. My dad asked my mom if she thought he'd be able to visit with him if he came down there? He decided to give it a try. Dad went to the restaurant, and went over to his bus to try to see if he could visit with him. I guess it took some explaining, on my dad's part, before security finally went on the bus and told Mr. Berglund who was out there. Mr. Berglund came out and invited dad on the bus. My dad went on that bus, darn well knowing HE was a democrat. Of course I'm pretty sure they didn't discuss politics because my father always warned us about discussing politics and religion in a normal conversation with someone.
He probably also would've said Muriel couldn't help that she married a democrat...
