Grandpa Stechmann would be out working on the farm and would suddenly decide he was going to go to Sanburn (that is where he used to live and all his relatives were there). He would say "Bessie, get my clothes ready I am going to Sanburn tomorrow. Grandma didn't have a washer so she would have to scrub his clothes by hand and would then have to hang the clothes on clothes lines that would run all along the kitchen from one side to another. He loved to go to Sanburn and he went there a lot. He and Grandma moved to the Roseau area when Great Grandma Trach moved there, but Grandpa always wanted to move back home to Sandborn to be near his family. Some days he would tell Grandma, I'm going to town so get your coat if you're going. She had to get her coat fast, because when he was ready to go, he was ready to go, and if she wasn't she would be left at home.
ps. Grandpa loved Schnapps!
