Personal Notes:
Aunt Florence made this as one of our last desserts, before we left Minnesota to move out west, thus the name "Blueberry Farewell Dessert" came to be...Very good recipe!!!!!
It was almost unheard of in our family that someone would even think about moving away from the area. Your family was there and there you stayed. Uncle Norman and Aunt June moved west to be closer to her sister Donna and it was getting pretty hard to survive due to farming hardships. Dad was trying to make ends meet but it wasn't working out. Government was trying to force farmers to stop growing certain things and they would subsidize them for not growing certain crops. It was becoming harder and harder for the farmer and his family to survive. Dad and mom finally decided to move out west. After that everything happened pretty fast. They sold the farm. One of my mom and dads friends told them they were "damn fools" for even thinking about moving. Dad and Mom held the farm auction and sold most everything they owned. The Ladies Aid served a free lunch and the next thing it was all over and we were on our way.
Can you imagine, we were heading out west in a limousine with four doors on each side, a head in every window, with a washtub and a garbage can on top?
Well, they were right, it was the best decision they could of ever made and we had a GREAT LIFE!
Jackie
