Directions:Evening Prayer: Now I lay me down to sleep I pray the Lord, my soul to keep If I should die, before I awake I pray thee Lord, my soul to take Bless Mom and Dad, said ever so sloooowly and reverently...thenspeeditup... davidkathydouglasjackiepaulinedwightdeweyjulieduanedennis. No if's ands or buts about it...It always sounded like just one looooong name, no matter which one of us said it. The trick was to say it as fast as you could so you could jump up off your knees and get into that bed where you could warm up AND be the first one INTO bed. Pauline says she was always trying to beat me. HA! Fat chance! ...and the last thing you heard in the darkness echoeing down the hallway... "SEE YOU IN THE MORNING WHEN THE COWS COME HOME!" |

Notes: Pauline and I used to think the "Be Present at Our Table Lord" prayer which was always sung at church before church luncheons had Norwegian words in it. We could start the song, but when it came to one of the lines, we thought it was "theses persese and grant that we" and a little humming "hum hum hum hum hum hum hum hum...Aaahhhmen! " One day we were laughing about it at church because we never did get the words right. One of the members overheard us, chuckled and the next week brought a sheet of music to the church with the correct words to the song. I wonder what people who were standing next to us during that song thought we two little girls knew, that they didn't know about this song? Takk for maten! Vaer sa god! I talked to Pauline about this song today and she said she had been humming the tune, but in her head the words are still the same. ME TOO!!!!! Old habits are hard to break!
