The late 60's early 70's we were living in Spokane, Washington. Well, mom and dad suddenly had quite a few teen-age kids. Dad bought a bus and that was the mode of transportation when we traveled to church or any place that we all went together.
The Medical Lake Bus, which was the bus that transported the mental patients around the area, was the same color as our bus. What would you think if you saw our family on that bus? Well, my brothers did not make it any easier for people to tell the difference by the things they did in the windows, as all of us girls slid down as far as we could go between the seats and the floor of that old bus!

That old bus transported many neighbor kids. About a month ago I got an e-mail from one of our neighbors kids Jennifer Hodsdon who used to hang around with my youngest brother Dennis. It's funny but one of the things that she fondly remembered was the bus. Seems the neighbor kids liked it a lot and when we were going somewhere there was always room for extras. When Doug was a teen-ager he would load that bus up with kids to take to Indian Canyon ( a fantastic place for sledding) only about 7 miles from home.
My sister Julie said she always thought he was the coolest brother. He would close that bus door, slip on his sunglasses and put his symbol of defiance on the dashboard. It was a wooden finger and I know I probably don't have to tell you what finger it was, and they were off on a great day of tobogganing and sledding.
*Bet you're glad dad didn't know what you put on that dashboard, Doug or you would have got another of his famous haircuts and he would've taken your license away for a while, huh!
Sorry, mom another secret revealed. I'm sure you knew about it anyway because you always knew what was going on. In our secret meetings all of us kids pulled straws to see who would go look to see if you really did have eyes in the back of your head!
We know it's true...
Jackie
