1 c. dates, chopped
1 c. boiling water
1 tsp. baking soda
1 T. butter
3/4 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. walnuts, chopped

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve soda in boiling water and add the dates in with soda and water in a bowl. Let cool. Cream together in another bowl, butter and brown sugar. Add egg to butter/sugar mixture and beat well. Mix flour and salt together, in large measuring cup. Now alternate flour mixture and date mixture as you mix into sugar/butter mixture that you creamed. Fold in walnuts. Place in loaf pan. Bake at 300º for 50 - 60 mins. in an 8" x 4" loaf pan. If you use a glass loaf pan, cook for 60 mins. Let stand for 20 mins. before removing from pan for a well rounded loaf. Store overnight before slicing.
