Directions: |
Directions:Mix the sugar and cocoa. Add enough canned milk to make a paste. Put on the stove and add 1 tbsp butter. Bring to a boil stirring constantly. Bring to a boil (the mixture will become thin and runny) Boil until thick. Remove for heat and stir in coconut until not too thick yet not too thin. Stir in coconut slowly because mixture can thicken up quickly. Pour into a lightly greased square pan and let set up. When cooled, cut into squares. |

Notes: Ed and I loved mom's fudge. Greg must not have because he hates coconut. Maybe he liked it as a child. This recipe is hit or miss because mom measured nothing so it was difficult for her to give me exact amounts and directions. I have made it many times and thrown it out because it was too dry. That is why it is important to add the coconut slowly and observe what happens. The fudge should be hard but also a bit moist. Mom making fudge at Christmas is one of my fondest memories growing up.
