1 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg, unbeaten
1 c. unsweetened applesauce
1 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. seedless raisins
1 c. chopped walnuts
Frosting
powdered sugar
butter or margarine
!/4 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and shortening together, then add egg and applesauce. Beat together, then add flour, soda, cinnamon, cloves and salt. Stir mixture well, then add raisins and nuts. Bake in 12"X12" square pan at 350 degrees for about 35 minutes, or until stuck with a toothpick, the pick comes out clean or almost. When done stick holes in cake and and pour on frosting.
The frosting is by guess and by golly. Melt the butter in the pan in oven. Pour in sifted powdered sugar and add vanilla. The frosting will seep into the holes and make it even more delicious.
