10 lbs. lg. ripe cucumbers
2 gal. water
2 c. slaked lime
2 tsp. alum
2 qts. vinegar
9 c. sugar
2 T. canning salt
2 T. cloves
2 T. pickling spice
2 bags red hots
1/2 bottle red food coloring

Directions:
Directions:
Peel and seed cucumbers. Cut into chunks. Soak the cucumbers in lime water for 24 hours. Rinse the cucumber well and soak for 3 hours in ice water with 2 T. of alum. Drain.

Cover with the following mixture: vinegar, sugar, salt, cloves, pickling spice, red hots, and food coloring. (Put spices in cheese cloth) Soak in syrup overnight.

Slowly bring to a boil. Simmer 45 minutes. Pack in sterilized jars and seal.
