1 lb lean ground beef
1 med. onion, chopped (about 1/2 cup)
1 clove garlic (or use garlic salt while cooking meat-season to taste)
2 cans(16 oz.) diced tomatoes
1 can (16 oz.) tomato sauce
3 T dried parsley flakes
1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. dried basil leaves
3/4 tsp. salt
9 uncooked lasagne noodles (about 8 ozs.)
1 large carton of ricotta cheese (about 3 cups)
3/8 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
1 1/2 tbsp parsley flakes
1 3/4 teaspoon salt
1 3/4 tsp. dried oregano leaves
3 cups Mozzarella cheese (shredded)
3/4 cup grated Parmesan

Cook and stir ground beef, onion and garlic in medium size pan until meat is light brown; drain. Add tomatoes( with liquid), tomatoe sauce, 3 T parsley, the sugar, basil and 3/4 tsp. salt (if using garlic cloves or 1/2 tsp. if using garlic salt). Heat to boiling, stirring occasionally; reduce heat. Simmer uncovered untill mixture is the consistency of thick spaghetti sauce, about 1 hour.
Cook noodles. Reserve 1 cup of the sauce mixture. Mix ricotta cheese with 3/4 cup parmesan cheese, 1 1/2 T of the parsley flakes, 1 3/4 tsp. salt and the oregano. Layer 1/3 of each of the noodles, remaining sauce mixture, mozzarella cheese, and ricotta cheese mixture in ungreased 9 x 13 inch baking dish Repeat 2 times, then spoon reserved sauce mixture onto top; sprinkle with 3/4 cup grated parmesan cheese. Cook uncovered in 350 degree oven for 45 minutes. Let stand 15 minutes before cutting.
