10 lbs Apples, quartered
21/2 Cups Sugar
3 stick cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1 star anise

Directions:
Directions:
Cook apples just until soft, put through sieve until you have 2 and 1/2 quarts of sauce. Place in crock pot with other ingredients. Cook on low for 24 to 36 hours. DO NOT put lid on crock pot. Can or freeze.

I love to have apple butter like mom made as a kid, but don't have time to cook it on the stove top like she did, I'm rarely home all day, for one thing! I have also discovered another short cut, buy the #10 (big institutional size) size can of applesauce. Saves even more time!
