2 c Jam (thin, Blackberry or rasberry)
3/4 c Shortening
1 1/2 c Brown Sugar
3 1/4 c All Purpose Flour
3 Eggs (save 2 whites for icing)
2 tsp Baking Soda
1 tsp Ground Cloves
1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
1 tsp Ground Nutmeg
1 tsp Salt
1 c Buttermilk

Sea Foam Icing:
1 1/2 c Brown Sugar
1/2 tsp Salt
1/2 c Water
2 Egg Whites (Stiffly beaten)
2 tbl Powdered Sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Place jam in bowl and add other ingredients in the order as given above. Do not cream shortening and sugar. Blen all ingredients together and beat for 2 mins. When the ingredients are thoroughly mixed, place in 9 inch layer pans bake at 350º until cake is firm to touch. Cool and ice with Sea Foam Icing.

Icing:
Mix sugar, salt and water in sauce pan and boil until it spins a thread. Pour slowly over stiffly beaten egg whites and beat until stiff and forms peaks. Add powdered sugar to icing to make it firm. Spread over cake.
