"Plain fresh bread, its crust shatteringly crisp. Sweet cold butter. There is magic in the way they come together in your mouth to make a single perfect bite."--Ruth Reichl

Personal Notes:
Mom and Dad (Bruce M. Pember and Mary Maurine May) married September 8, 1929, in the middle of the depression years. I think (MBK) they met in Austin while Dad was attending the University of Texas and Mom was visiting her friend (Lucille LaRue) whose mother operated a boarding house.
Mom grew up in Whitewright, TX, had one year of college at Trinty College in Waxahatchi, TX and one year and two summers at the University of Texas. She then taught school at Pilot Grove, TX, met Dad and got married.
Dad grew up in Onawa,Iowa, moved to Slaton TX but stayed with his Aunt Anna Leet in St. Paul, Minn. for two years to finish high school as the high school in Slaton was not yet accredited and he wanted to go to the Univerisity.
