2-3 lbs. round steak
1/2 cup flour
1 cup tomato juice or V-8
1 cup water
1 cup red wine
1 1/2 tsp salt, add more to your taste
1/4 tsp. pepper, add more to your taste
1/4 cup oil
2 cups onions, sliced
1 cup fresh mushrooms, sliced or 1- 4 oz can
1 cup sour cream
6 cups egg noodles, cooked

Trim all fat and membrane from meat. Cut in small strips across the grain. Roll in flour. Brown in hot oil on all sides in kettle. When meat is browned, add tomato juice (I always use V-8), water, wine, salt and pepper. Cook over low heat till meat is almost tender--about 45 minutes to 1 hour.

In another skillet, saute mushrooms, and onions together in butter till golden. Add to meat mixture. Cover and continue cooking until tender. Just before serving, add sour cream and heat through. Pour stroganoff over noodles, and garnish with dollops of sour cream.
