Ingredients:  
1 c. granulated sugar
1 c. shortening
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla (almond may be used)
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cream of tarter
1/2 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 350 degrees.
Mix sugar, shortening, egg and flavoring in a large bowl.
Stir in flour, baking soda, cream of tarter and salt.
Roll dough into balls (1/2 tbsp. size), roll in sugar and press.
Bake till light brown on bottom (7 - 8 minutes)

Grandma taught me to make these when I was very young. I have been making them ever since.
