4 large potatoes, pared and sliced(about 1/4" thick
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 cup water
1/2 cup cream ( 1/2 & 1/2)
1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
1/2 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
Optional topping:
1/2 cup bread crumbs
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
3 slices bacon, diced and pan broiled

Directions:
Directions:
Put sliced potatoes, onion, salt, pepper, and water into a heavy skillet; cover and bring to boiling, reduce heat to simmer
Cook about 10 minutes,turning potatoes over once or until potatoes are just tender.
Add cream, melted butter, and cheese to skillet and mix lightly.
Cook uncovered over low heat about 5 minutes, or until thoroughly heated.
Meanwhile, lightly brown bread crumbs in 2 tablespoons butter in a small skillet, add bacon & sprinkle on top..
