Grandma Dot's Fruit Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

2 1/2 cups hot applesauce
1 cup shortening (melts in the applesauce)
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup molasses
4 tsp soda (it will foam up a little)d
2-3 eggs

1 package of pitted dates, chopped
1 cup or so of raisins
1 package of fruit cake mix
1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts
(mix in before the flour because the dough is quite stiff)

Mix together:
4 cups flour
1 tsp salt
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp each of cloves, nutmeg, allspice, and mace

Add to the applesauce mixture.

Grease 5 regular size foil loaf tins (or spray with PAM) Bake at 300º for 1 1/2 hours.

This was Aunt Betty Emery's Recipe, but Grandma Dot makes it every year for Christmas and shares it with family and friends. It is really good!
