3 c flour
5 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 heaping tbsp Crisco or fresh lard
1 heaping tbsp butter
1 1/4 c buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour, baking powder, soda and salt into a big mixing bowl. Lightly flour hands and work shortening and butter into mixture. Add buttermilk and stir in with fork. When dough is gathered and leaves the side of the bowl, pat out on floured board or other flat surface and cut with a floured biscuit cutter. (Dough should be no more than 1/3 inch thick.) Place on greased cookie sheet. HAve the hot oven ready, about 450 degrees. Bake each pan of biscuits about 12 minutes. Makes about 28 to 30 light, but rich biscuits.
