Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 3/4 c. flour
2 t. baking powder
1/4 t. salt
1 c. unsalted butter, at room temp.
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg
2 t. maple extract
sugar crystals for topping

Icing: (optional)
2 1/4 c. powdered sugar
3 T. whole milk
bright sparkling white sugar crystals

Directions:
Directions:
Whisk flour, powder, salt in medium bowl. Beat butter, sugar and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and maple extract. Beat in flour mixture just until blended. Divide in half and flatten to a disk. Wrap in Seran and chill at least 1 hour or overnight.

Line baking sheets with parchment paper. Roll out one dough disk at a time on lightly floured surface, to about 11" round, 1/3" thick. Use 2" star cookie cutter dipped in flour to cut out cookies. Place cookies on baking sheets, about 1" apart; repeat to use all dough. Sprinkle tops with sugar crystals if not using icing.

Bake at 375º for 12 minutes (we bake for about 8 minutes; if too thin, they cook too quickly). Cool on sheets 5 minutes then remove to racks to cool.

Combine icing ingredients and frost the cookies. Top with sugar crystals.
