1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 1/3 cups all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
2/3 cup buttermilk
2/3 cup chopped pitted prunes

PRUNE FROSTING
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons prune juice
1 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup chopped prunes

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening; add sugar and eggs. Beat well and mix in combined dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk. Add chopped prunes and mix thoroughly. Bake in 2 (9-inch) round cake pans lined with waxed paper, in preheated 350 º oven for about 25 minutes or until layers test done. When cool, frost cake with prune frosting.

PRUNE FROSTING:
Cream butter with juices, cinnamon and salt. Add chopped pecans and prunes. Add sugar last, beating in gradually.

I remember this dessert and many others served on Christmas Eve at Grandma Ragusa's house. Very moist and deceiving cake. Who would know!
