1/2 c. butter, softened
3/4 c. packed brown sugar
3 eggs
3/4 c. dry bread crumbs
1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
2 cans (15 oz. each) plums drained, pitted and chopped
1 3/4 chopped dates
1 c. golden raisins
1 c. shredded carrots
1/2 c. dried currants
1 T. grated orange peel

Hard sauce:
1/2 c. butter, softened
3 c. powdered sugar
1/4 c. dark rum or orange juice

Directions:
Directions:
In a large bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs.
Combine the bread crumbs, flour, cinnamon, baking soda, nutmeg, salt and cloves; gradually beat into the creamed mixture. Fold in the plums, dates, raisins, carrot, currants and orange peel.
Pour into a well greased 8-c. pudding mold; metal gelatin mold or oven proof bowl and cover tightly. Place on a rack in a stock pot; add 3 in. hot water to pot. Bring to a gentle boil; cover and steam for 2 to 2 1/2 hrs, until a tooth pick inserted into the center comes out clean, adding water as needed. Let stand for 5 minutes before unmolding.

In a small bowl, beat the butter, powdered sugar and rum until smooth. Unmolding pudding onto a serving plate; cut into wedges. Serve warm with the sauce.
