4 c. self-rising flour
1 T. baking powder
1 T. sugar
3/4 c.vegetable shortening
2 c. buttermilk

Directions:
Preheat oven to 400º F. Coat a large baking sheet with cooking spray. In large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and sugar; mix well. Using a fork or pastry cutter, cut shortening into flour until crumbly. Add buttermilk and stir until a soft dough forms. Place on a lightly floured surface and roll dough with a floured rolling pin or glass to a 1 inch thickness. Using a biscuit cutter or the mouth of a glass, cut out biscuits and place on prepared baking sheet. Bake at 400º F. for 10 to 12 minutes until golden brown. Remove and serve hot or cool completely on a wire rack. Brush top of biscuits with butter.

This recipe will make 24 biscuits. For a more butter flavor, use butter flavor shortening. Mom used to pinch off a piece of dough at a time, roll with her hands, pat out and form biscuit . She didn't have a biscuit cutter. Aren't we so BLESSED !
