1-1/2 C. flour
1/2 C. sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1 egg
2/3 C. milk
3 Tbsp. melted shortening
1/2 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 350º. Mix everything together in a bowl and stir to mix - slight lumps won't hurt.

Pour in a greased pan (square), sprinkle with brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped pecans. (Dried cranberries, apricots, or blueberries also work well - just put it in before the brown sugar and cinnamon.) Dot the well with cold butter.

Cook till golden brown.

This was a favorite of mine while growing up. My mom often made this on Saturday mornings. Still a favorite today!

You can reduce the sugar to 1/4 C. and use regular oil instead of melted shortening.
