1 C. brown sugar
1 C. water
1/2 C. crisco
1 C. raisins
1/2 tsp. nutmeg,
1/2 tsp.ground cloves
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
2 C. flour sifted with
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 C. chopped nut meats

Directions:

Mix together the brown sugar, water, crisco raisins, nutmeg, ground cloves and cinnamon, When this is mix thoroughly. Sift the flour,baking powder, baking soda and salt. Mix with the first ingredients. The Chopped nuts can be added if desired. Bake at 350º for 35 min.

Carol and I think this is the substitute our Mother used in place of our Grandmother Plum Pudding. The hard sauce found in this book was served over the warm cake or the plum pudding
