8 large cucumbers
1 cup pickling lime
1 cup vinegar
1 tsp. alum
red food coloring
2 cups water
2 cups vinegar
8 cups sugar
4 sticks cinnamon
1 package red hot candies

Directions:
Directions:
Peel cucumbers and cut in 1/2-inch round slices; remove seeds. Soak in 1 gallon water and 1 cup lime for 24 hours. Rinse and let stand 3 hours in cold fresh water. Drain. Mix vinegar, alum and food coloring; add cucumbers and enough water to cover and simmer 2 hours. Drain.
Make syrup of 2 cups water, 2 cups vinegar, sugar, cinnamon, and candies. Add cucumber rings and return to boil. Remove from heat and let stand overnight. Heat cucumbers in syrup, pack in hot sterilized jars and in syrup. 3 - 4 pints.
