Biscuits:
2 c. flour
1 T baking powder
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2 T. shortening
3 T butter, cold or room temp
1 c. buttermilk ( or use the 1 c. milk with 1 1/2 tsp. vinegar and let it sit 10 minutes)
1 1/4 c grated sharp cheddar

Buttery Topping:
3 T melted butter
1/4 tsp dried parsley flakes
3/4 tsp garlic powder
pinch of salt

Preheat over to 425º
Biscuits:
In medium bowl, combine dry ingredients and cut in shortening and butter until coarse crumbs are formed. Lightly mix in grated cheese. Mix in buttermilk just until moist (dry spots here and there are okay-do not overmix or they will be tough.)
Drop biscuits onto greased or lined cookie sheet. Bake for 12-14 minutes until browned and golden.

Buttery topping:
Make this while biscuits are baking.
Combine all ingredients and brush on top of the biscuits as soon as they come out of the oven.
