1/2 c fat
1 c sugar
2 eggs
2 1/2 c flour
2 1/2 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 c buttermilk
3 c 100% bran cereal*
1 c boiling water
3/4 c raisins (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Pour 1 c boiling water over 1 c 100% bran cereal and let stand until water is absorbed and slightly cooled. Cream together fat and sugar. Add 2 eggs, one at a time. Sift together dry ingredients and add alternately with buttermilk. Blend bran mixture into batter. Stir in 2 c 100% bran cereal and raisins if desired. Bake at 400ºF for 20 minutes.

Optional: Put mixture into container, cover and store in refrigerator. Will be good up to 5 weeks. When wanted dip batter from container without stirring and spoon into greased muffin tins, Bake at 400ºF for 20 minutes.
May double recipe.
*Grandmother used the bran cereal that looked like little sticks.
