1 cup butter
1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
1/2 t vanilla extract
1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup pecans, finely chopped

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and 1/2 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and flour, continue beating until well mixed. Stir in nuts. Cover and chill for 1 hour. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Shape dough into 1 inch balls and place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 15 minutes. Let stand on sheets 2 to 3 minutes to cool before removing to wire racks. Cool completely and then roll in remaining confectioners' sugar.

The premier classic Christmas cookie! Gramma called them butterballs! As accurate as that might be, Charlotte did NOT want them called that, so they are Wedding Cookies in our family. Dan may have made thousands of these cookies over the years. It was not unusual for him to make 20 or 30 dozen at a time!
