4 cups sliced peeled turnips (about 5 turnips)
1/3 cup sugar
a pinch freshly grated nutmeg
1/2 cup unsalted butter

Directions:
Directions:
Let the turnips soak in bowl of cold water for 15 minutes and transfer them with a slotted spoon to a saucepan. Add the sugar, nutmeg, butter; bring the mixture to a boil and simmer it, covered, stirring occasionally, for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the turnips are fork tender. Season the turnips with salt and freshly ground pepper.
