2 1 oz. squares unsweetened chocolate
½ cup water
½ cup butter, softened
1 ½ cups firmly packed brown sugar
3 eggs
1 ¾ cups cake flour
1 ½ tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. baking soda
¼ tsp. salt
¼ cup rum

Grease two 9-inch cake pans. Line bottoms with wax paper and grease again.

Combine chocolate and water in a small bowl and melt in microwave. Let cool.

Combine butter and sugar. Cream until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at time, beating well after each addition.

Combine dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Add to creamed mixture alternately with chocolate, mixing well after each addition. Stir in rum.

Spoon batter into prepared cake pans. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes or until cake is firm. Let cool 5 minutes. Remove from pans and peel off wax paper. Let cool completely.

Spread with Chocolate Rum Frosting between layers and on top of cake.
