"A man who was fond of wine was offered some grapes at dessert after dinner. "Much obliged," said he, pushing the plate aside; "I am not accustomed to take my wine in pills."--Jean Antheleme Brillat-Savarin, The Physiology of Taste

Personal Notes:
Mom was always making her special Pancake Animal creation for us when we were growing up. Mom learned this recipe from her mother at about age 12. I grew up having this special treat frequently. The real fun was trying to see if you could come up with something that Mom couldn't reproduce on the griddle. She always seemed to come through. - Grandma Ross would frequently use this recipe to instantly whip up a batch of pancakes for the tribe. Her specialty was making a pancake in whatever animal or figure shape each recipient would call out. Needless to say this was always a hit with the kids and grandkids alike. Sometimes when some of them were older and in a hurry, they would just say, "Maw Maw, make me some basketballs."
