2 cups brown sugar
1 cup milk
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp baking soda
3 1/2 cups flour, sifted
1 cup butter or margarine
4 eggs
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp baking powder
1 cup blackberry jam


** for maple frosting**
1 cup brown sugar
1 1/4 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup butter or margarine
2 cups confectioners sugar


Directions:

Sift together flour, soda, powder and spices. Cream together brown sugar and butter. Mix together flour mixture and milk, a little of each at a time. Add creamed brown sugar mixture. Continue mixing, adding one egg at a time. Add blackberry jam. Pour into greased and floured 9-inch pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes.

**Maple Frosting**

In saucepan, bring brown sugar, butter and milk to a boil. Let cool. Add confectioners sugar and vanilla. If frosting is too thick, add a little water. If too thin, add a little confectioners sugar.
