1 cup flour
1 1/2 cup brown sugar - packed - then divide
1 Tbls. cold butter
1/2 cup milk
3/4 cup chopped dates
3/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)
1 cup water
2 tsp. baking powder
Whip cream

Directions:
Directions:
Combine all dry ingredients and 1/2 of the brown sugar. Cut in butter until crumbly.

Gradually add milk, dates & nuts. In sauce pan combine the remainder of brown sugar & water - bring to a boil. Remove from heat & add date mixture & mix well.

Pour into 8x8" buttered pan & bake @350 for 30 min. or until golden brown.

This dessert is very similar to the one that was traditional at our house at Thanksgiving dinner when I was a child.
