"I have long believed that good food, good eating is all about risk. Whether we're talking about unpasteurized Stilton, raw oysters or working for organized crime 'associates,' food, for me, has always been an adventure."--Anthony Bourdain

Ingredients:
2 cups milk
⅔ cup white sugar
3 tablespoons butter
2 teaspoons vanilla extract (Optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Turn slow cooker on High. Mix milk and sugar together in the crock of the slow cooker.

Cook for 3 hours, stirring every 10 minutes in the last 30 minutes to prevent burning. Mix butter and vanilla extract into condensed milk and let cool.

Don't worry about it not being thick enough it will get twice the thickness as it cools. It will last about 2 weeks in the fridge or 3 months in the freezer.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
A trick to get it to reduce is to not put the lid securely on the pot. I put a double layer of paper towels, lay a wooden spoon or skewer toward one side of the pot and place the lid on top. There needs to be a gap under the lid, so the water can evaporate from the milk. Also, it works best with whole milk. To check progress on the reduction, put a wooden skewer in the pot and measure the amount of liquid. I use a marker to mark the stick. Then you can stick the skewer in every hour or so to measure your progress.
