2 c. graham flour, 1 c. whole wheat flour, 1 egg,
4 T. black strap molasses, 4 T. sugar, 2 T. shortening, 1 1/2 c. sour milk, 1 c. chopped dates, 1 c. chopped nuts,
1/2 tsp. salt, 1 1/2 tsp baking soda

Directions:
Directions:
Mix sugar, syrup, eggs, shortening, and salt. Add dates and nuts and stir. Add flour and sour milk alternately until well mixed. Dissolve baking soda in 1 tsp water and add to above. Pour into greased and floured pans.

(Mary) Katherine Meyer was the originator of this recipe and it was used many times by her daughters.
Mary is in Parentheses because Katherine did not know that she was baptized Mary Katherine until her husband, Henry, applied for her Social Security allowance when she turned 65.
