2 1/2 c. flour, 2 c. brown sugar, 1/2 tsp. salt, 2/3 c. shortening, 2 tsp. baking powder, 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp. each: cinnamon and nutmeg,1/2 c. sour milk or buttermilk, 2 eggs, beaten

Mix flour, sugar, salt and shortening till crumbly. Keep out 1/2 c. Add soda, baking powder, and spices. Mix well. Add milk and beaten eggs. Mix again. Pour into greased and floured 9 X 13 pan. Sprinkle reserved mixture over top. Bake at 375 deg. for 25 to 30 minutes
