1 c. (2 sticks) butter
1 c. white sugar
2 eggs
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. salt

3 Tbsp. corn starch
3 to 4 c. fresh/frozen/canned sour cherries
1 tsp. almond flavoring
1 Tbsp. butter

4 Tbsp. (1/2 stick) butter
½ c. white sugar
½ c. flour

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Coffee cake: Cream 1 c. butter with 1 c. sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, beating thoroughly. Sift 2 c. flour, baking powder and salt and blend into egg mixture. Spread dough into buttered 9 x 13" pan.

Filling: Mix 1 c. sugar with the corn starch. Add the cherries and stir over med. heat until thickened. Add almond flavoring and 1 Tbsp. butter. Pour this mixture over the top of the coffee cake dough.

Crumb Topping: Mix 4 Tbsp. butter with ½ c. sugar and ½ c. flour until crumbly. Sprinkle over the cherries and batter. Bake at 350 for 30 to 40 min. Serves 12.
