"A man who was fond of wine was offered some grapes at dessert after dinner. "Much obliged," said he, pushing the plate aside; "I am not accustomed to take my wine in pills."--Jean Antheleme Brillat-Savarin, The Physiology of Taste

5 tsp baking powder
1 tbsp sugar
½ tsp of salt
½ c shortening
2 c warm water

Directions:
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 390º put the rack in the middle
2. Add dry ingredients in bowl. Slowly mix in shortening so it looks course like oatmeal.
3. Make a well in the middle and add most of the water ( if needed add more water)
4. Mix together until dough is consistent no lumps, kneed as little as possible or it will toughen.
5. Flour surface, and press dough out to about an inch thick to make a nice round bannock. Prick top with fork about 2 inches apart.
7. Place on oiled cookie sheet.
8. Bake. Until light golden brown for about 20-25 minutes depending on your oven and it sounds a bit hollow when tapped.
Eating it when warm with butter is best!
