1 1/4 cups sifted flour
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup margarine or butter
1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
1/3 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 cup chopped walnuts.
1 - 11/2 cups chopped dates

Directions:

For pastry: Combine flour and sugar and cut in margerine to make fine crumbs. Pack in bottom of 9 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes until edges are slightly brown.
Combine sugars, eggs, and vanilla; beat well. Sift dry ingredients together and add to egg mixture. Stir in dates and nuts. Turn batter onto hot baked pastry layer. Bake at 350 degree oven for 20-25 minutes until set, maybe still slightly soft. Cool in pan. Sprinkle with confectioner's sugar and cut into bars.
